OUR QUALITY
MANUFACTURING PROCESS

The focus at American Timber and Steel is to manufacture and provide durable, quality products that will last for decades to come – possibly a lifetime.

We achieve quality through several factors: the expertise of our team, the wood species we work with, the state-of-the-art equipment we utilize, and our ability to adapt to changing needs of the market and industry standards.

Why Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) is our wood of choice

  • SYP has been tested by Government DOTs and is among the preferred species for wood guardrail posts
  • SYP grows quickly, providing a renewable solution
  • SYP is perfect to receive the chemicals of pressure treating due to its softer exterior
  • SYP is one of the densest and strongest softwoods available, making it a top choice for structural applications

WHY WE PACK OUR BUNDLES IN SQUARE UNITS

Better air circulation throughout the bundle helps the drying process so the outer posts and inner posts will dry more uniformly
Having the ability to stack bundles higher saves space in the yard and facilitates shipping
Products are easier to see, track, and count

Why pressure treating to meet or exceed AWPA standards matters

We assure the wood has been dried properly in order for the pressure treatment of chemicals to be properly received
The correct pressure is applied to assure that the chemical is pushed deep through the soft exterior to the core
Testing is a regular practice to ensure the proper chemical volume and penetration was achieved

MAKING IT RIGHT, ALWAYS MOVING FORWARD

To achieve a uniform fence post with a more finished look, our timber manufacturing process includes “turning” the wood. We prefer this process, rather than peeling.

With a commitment to progress, we continue to invest in new technologies that support our product manufacturing and customer service.

Our product development and manufacturing process enables us to make nearly any custom design that can be imagined.

Safety practices are strictly followed to protect our employees and customers
